As a Cambodian-American, I am proud to share with you my supports for a very good man, a long-time friend and supporter of Cambodia, Senator and Presidential candidate John McCain.
You probably wonder why I choose Senator John McCain over other candidates. Most of the leading candidates regardless of their political wings are just as good and as credibles, right? Correct.
However, Senator John McCain is standing out alone above everyone else on my criteria chart. If you have followed his records and services he has rendered to his country until today, he more than deserves to be the next President of the United States of America, especially in this precarious time in our nation's history. But that is not all the reasons why I vote or will vote for John McCain. Read on and you will know why...
Who is more qualified than Senator John McCain? A decorated US navy pilot, imprisoned and tortured by Vietnam for many years, serve in the senate for more than two decades. He is well respected by both parties, strong on foreign affairs, and when it comes to protecting American and America, he is the man to beat. On top of that, because you are Cambodian-American like me, here is the reason why you should vote for this gracious Senator. He would protect our interests as Cambodian-American because he has always been. He is a strong supporter of Cambodia and Cambodian-American, and that is why our country is where it is today not yesterday where 275,000 foreign troops were occupying Cambodia with no intention of ever leaving in the first place. Cambodia was meant and declared arrogantly on the international stage by Vietnam to be annexed irreversibly.
Senator John McCain has always been a true friend to Cambodia. His knowledge and understanding of our tragic Cambodian affairs is second to none. When Cambodia was in danger of permanently annexed militarily by Vietnam, the Senator was there to speak out against it. When Hanoi was lobbying agressively to normalize relationship with Washington,DC in the mid 80s, at the expense of Cambodia, the Senator was there to demand that the Vietnamese troops leave Cambodia. He was one of the leading proponents and supporters of the UN Comprehensive Peace Plan on Cambodia.
My personal memeries go back to the late 1980s when I was a student at the University of Lowell, Massachusetts. I have the opportunity to work with a number of outstanding individuals. We were such a good team, good working chemisty and we came together for a very noble cause. We lobbied our local congressman Chat Atkins and Senator John Kerry who were pro-Hanoi position at the time. We made several exausting trips to Washington, DC to protest against the Vietnamese troops occupation and to demand for the implementation of UN Comprehensive Peace Plan. That is where we have learned about Senator John McCain, Congressman Stephen Solar from New York. The other person to mention, I always feel that we owe a big gratitude to President Goerge Bush Sr. for the way he handling Cambodian matter. Had the United States decided to accept Vietnam's argument, by prematurely normalizing relationship with Vietnam as encouraged by Senator John Kerry and Congressman Chat Atkins, there would be no need for UNTAC to come in. Vietnamese troops would have been in Cambodia and our people would have been long suffering still at the border ares. That was our fear, and that what drives us all the way down to DC many times.
I am committed to vote for Senator John McCain, and I urge you, especially my dear friends in Lowell, Massachusetts and elsewhere to consider working for him during this campaign to make John McCain our next President of the United States of America. Cambodia will benefit greatly from John McCain's presidency. I can assure you.
Congratution to Senator John McCain on a well deserved victory in New Hamshire's primary tonight.
A Cambodian-American for John McCain
